The artist has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages played in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds helped locations that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations were granted funding support in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The concept that money from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they received the award in 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would donate their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her prize between several organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

In recent years, they donated their funds to the community center that nurtured their group, in addition to other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The first in the city and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
